Poor Joe

How injured is Joe? How much does it matter?

Johnny Got His Gun starts off with Joe being severely injured in WWI . It's actually really sad because as the book processes, Joe realizes he doesn't have any limbs - including a face. That leaves him without any senses; he is blind, deaf, and can't smell.

This matters to Joe because he is reminiscences his past and is struggling with remaining in a good state of mind. Further, without being able to really experience anything or communicate, his injury puts Joe in a predicament because he must live "inside" his head. He is unlike any other man.

I like that Lauren put her own touch on this blog and she shows how she feels about the question and shows her own emotion which is different then most people's blogs.

I think you've made some very good points. Joe's physical state is very sad. Even though is severely physically damaged, he is still living in a few ways. He tries to communicate with other people and even learns how to tell time by when nurses come and when he can feel sun shining on him through the window. He still has some senses, but what keeps him alive even more is his mind. He has vivid memories and thoughts about his state even if he has difficulty at times knowing the difference between his mind and reality. Joe's injury matter a lot to him. However, the doctors who kept him alive, while destroying his life in the process, only care about themselves and what they think they've accomplished.

Dude,
When i found out that he got hurt in the book i was like okay he's injured. But then he kept going on and on about his limbs, then his eyes, then is freaking tongue and i was just a little surprised and taken a back. I also felt sorry for him. i
also felt bad that he had to live inside his own head. I can't imagine what that would be like, especially when he thinks back in time when he had all the senses and abilities that he no longer has. Good blog home slice!
