Progress # 2 - Health Deceptions

For the most part we do not see ill characters in the media. Suffering, pain, and medical help are typically not shown unless they are serious or life threatening. Getting help is portrayed to be very dramatic and high-strung, not preventative. “Hardly anyone dies a natural death on television.” (Potter p.91) Granted the mass amounts of television shows that depict everyday life, such as Gilmore Girls and Gossip Girls, why is it that we do not see television families acting and doing things as though a ‘real’ family would?

Hey girl!
Yes I did have fun inn Boston, it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life.
I totally agree with you about how the media doesn't show people sufferinng or medical help unless something is drastic. I think one of the main reasons is because the media is so dramatic. They want to lure a crowd by showing shocking news to catch a person's eye. I think that is also why the news rarely has anything positive to say or celebrate.
T.V. families aren't truly depicted as actual families for the same reasons. People would get bored of watching Gilmore Girl's or Gossip Girl if it was just like their everyday life, people want something that's larger than life, or different from their own because they feel their own life is boring. I have to admit that it's alot more entertaining to watch Serena hookup with Blair's BF Nate, then to watch a show about a family who does eveyday things that I do.
Good blog boo!
