Progress # 6 - Health Deceptions

Still having trouble finding health deceptions that relate to one another... But I have found research on personal responsibility.

Who is accountable to take personal responsibility for health deceptions? There is a huge problem in American for Americans overeating. According to the American Medical Association, a third are obese and another third are overweight. Although it seems that would be a personal problem, it’s not. American’s continue to eat too much and not exercise enough and hope that someone else will do something in order for them to lose weight. Such as in California, there was a consideration for a ‘California Childhood Obesity Prevention Act’. It would act as ban against soda being sold in public schools. What is shocking is that people were filing lawsuits against the companies! Just as Potter asks, “Are people really that weak willed that they need the government to ban something before they will stop consuming it?” (Potter p. 302).

I think it's pretty sad that people would consider putting a ban on any type of food. I understand that marketing and advertisements used by companies are very powerful, but parents and people should be able to make their own responsible and appropriate decisions without someone creating restrictions. I agree with you. The majority of people sit around doing nothing and expect change to occur when that is not going help. It is ridiculous that restrictions would be considered, but I guess it's sort of gotten to that point.

Hey Lauren!

Okay, so I totally believe that California is taking the situation a bit too far. Agreeing with Potter, I do not think it is necessary for the government to come up with a law for the children to stop consuming the sodas. Having a law about that does not even sound right, to me. I think that they should look at it with different views. Having a law for the stop of soda makes our country look even fatter. It is kind of like, wow, in California they ban sodas because people are too fat. In a sense, people need to control their own selves.

Being that my topic is Childhood Obesity, I do find this information interesting.

But happy research and I look forward to reading and hearing more about your topic.

It does seem as though your topic is morphing a bit, but a thesis more geared towards body image - instead of just healthy eating - would be just as suitable for this project.
